BSA Campus Expansion Study

The fastest growing segment of the Town’s population is of residents who are 65 and older. Today, there are only 137 housing units dedicated to the elderly in Weston, and, at Brook School Apartments, the average waiting period for a unit is three to five years. To keep pace with the population growth, the Town must expand its inventory of elderly housing.

One of the key goals of this feasibility study is to understand how to approach integrating additional units into the Brook School Campus while minimizing the impact on the neighborhood and the existing open and recreational spaces on the campus.

Feasibility Study

The outcome of the feasibility study provided the Elderly Housing Committee with sufficient information as to whether a proposed addition to the Brook School campus is feasible. The study found that a modest addition to the campus is feasible. Review the 2018 Feasibility Study (PDF) for details including siting, septic constraints, conservation limits, costs, traffic and number of units.

Next Step

From the baseline, the Elderly Housing Committee, working with the Regional Housing Services Office, is in the process of applying for Community Preservation Act funding to pursue schematic design and design development.

This initial design phase will be an open and transparent process, involving a range of stakeholders (neighbors, Brook School Residents, Council on Aging, etc.) to finalize the siting of the building and general design so that it addresses the proposed project’s impact on the Town and surrounding neighborhood.
