Invasive plants species grow throughout Weston. The most likely plants for residents to encounter on their properties are the Sour 16. The full Massachusetts Prohibited Plants includes 69 species. New invasive species, such as those in the Early Detection and Rapid Response list, are important to be on the lookout for as well.
The Sour 16
The Sudbury, Assabet, and Concord Watershed Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area (SuAsCo CISMA), of which Weston is a part, has identified 16 priority invasive plants that are the heaviest invaders in our area and the most difficult to eradicate.
Early Detection and Rapid Response (EDRR) is an invasive species management strategy in which new invasive species are identified and removed before they can establish themselves and spread. EDRR depends on people being able to identify these new invasive species and tackling them quickly when identified.
