    This 3-session introduction to Iraq is concentrated on the span of 1979 – 2016. The series touches on other countries in the Middle East which affect Iraq dramatically, particularly Syria and Iran, and will address the tensions between Arabs and non-Arabs (Kurds, Persians, Turks), between Sunni and Shia Islam, and between secular Muslims and Islamic Fundamentalists. A considerable amount of time will be spent covering the Iran – Iraq war and the 2 Persian Gulf wars, including an examination of US policy in regard to these wars. There will be some time devoted to class discussion evaluating US policy towards Iraq. Presenter Jim Buxton is a retired high school social studies teacher, specializing in honors global studies and international relations.     The Weston Public Library music committee continues their 2020-21 virtual season with a performance from Duo Amie (Ellyses Kuan, piano and Julie Reimann, cello) on January 31, 3:00pm. Duo Amie is a cello and piano duo dedicated to inspiring and bringing diverse people together with programs that capture the imagination through musical expression and visual thematic elements. They will be presenting an exciting program titled “Russian Rhapsody: Song, Dance, and Flights of Fancy” which includes works for cello and piano by a variety of composers including Sergei Rachmaninoff, Anton Arensky, Peter Tchaikovsky, Alexander Glazunov, and Mikhail Glinka.
