    The Select Board, having received notice from the School Committee Chair that a vacancy exists in the membership of the School Committee as the result of the resignation of Rachel Stewart, hereby gives notice in conformity with the provisions of General Laws, Chapter 41, Section 11, that it will hold a meeting with the remaining members of the School Committee on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. via an online meeting platform for the purpose of filling this vacancy by roll call vote. A majority of votes of the Select Board and remaining members of the School Committee is required to elect a candidate to serve until the 2022 annual election of town officers. The candidate must be a registered voter of Weston.

    The Weston League of Women Voters will sponsor a Candidates' Night for the candidates for the contested board seats to participate. Incumbent Chris Houston and challenger Keith Johnson for the one seat on the Select Board; Ken Newberg, Tricia Liu and Attia Linnard for two seats on the School Committee; Jennifer Kickham, Heidi Wyle and James Bradner for one seat on the Board of Health; and Melissa Crocker, Marcy Dorna and Peter Hill for two seats on the Recreation Commission. If you have a question for a candidate, please email it in advance. There will be no live questions, but we will pose as many questions as time allows.

    Tara Murphy, African and Afro-Caribbean dance and drumming teacher and performer, will weave lecture and stories of West Africa with a creative dance and drum class. Tara began studying her heritage through African studies at Yale University and was awarded a Yale fellowship to study traditional dance and drumming at the University of Legon in Ghana, West Africa. Since returning to the US, she has studied with many African and AfroCaribbean artists. Learn about the history and importance of dance and drumming in West Africa and the power of dance to release energy, lift spirits, and connect with others.
