Pickleball Design Fee request

Pickleball racket with ball on court

The Recreation Master Plan Steering Committee is requesting $85,000 to design new pickleball courts at Burchard Park.  If approved, the project will be funded through the Community Preservation Act.

Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the country, and is quickly gaining popularity in Weston.  Creating pickleball courts was identified as a top priority in the 2020 Recreation Master Plan based on community feedback.  Since then, pickleball lines have been added to tennis courts at Burchard Park and Brook School Apartments, and while that has worked as a temporary fix, neither Pickleball players nor tennis players like the additional set of lines.  Also, tennis nets are higher than pickleball nets.  The growing popularity in Weston through recreational programming and social play groups have verified the necessity of this request.

This project has the support of the Recreation Commission; the Conservation Commission supported designing the courts at Burchard Park; and the Community Preservation Committee unanimously approved sending this project to Town Meeting as a CPA fund request.
