What has been the public process to date?

There have been numerous public meetings related to this project: 

February 2019:

Traffic and Sidewalk Committee (T&SC) meeting: 

  • Discussed potential cross section alternatives (shared use path, buffered bike lanes), the results of the signal warrant analysis, and potential geometric improvements at intersections. Weston Route 30 Reconstruction Project Questions & Answers 

March 2019: 

Traffic and Sidewalk Committee (T&SC) meeting: 

  • Follow up from February 2019 meeting now that the T&SC and public attendees had time to review the information presented the previous month. Additional questions and discussion regarding cross sections, potential signals, and geometric improvements. 

April 2019:

Meeting with Project Team: Weston DPW, Engineering, Town Manager; MassDOT District 6, and design consultants Howard Stein Hudson (HSH) 

  • Reviewed alternatives with MassDOT. Received feedback recommending a shared use path option for the corridor cross section. 

May 2019: 

Pre-25% Public Information Meeting hosted by the Traffic and Sidewalk Committee (T&SC): 

  • 40+ attendees at this meeting, presented updated concepts for intersections and cross sections, representative from MassDOT District 6 in attendance. This project was given a substantial amount of time on the agend for T&SC, as it was the main focus of the meeting. Presentation included discussion of shared use paths and buffered bike lanes, as well as why the shared use path is the preferred option. This presentation also presented signal recommendations for Winter St and Oak Street. 

September 2019: 

Traffic and Sidewalk Committee (T&SC) meeting

  • Presented an update to the T&SC, discussed comments and concerns with residents in attendance. Presentation was brief and included some sheets from the draft 25% plans. 

October 2019: 

Traffic and Sidewalk Committee (T&SC) meeting

  • Presented a more in-depth update/presentation to the T&SC, discussed comments and concerns with residents in attendance. This presentation included 3D renderings of what the potential roadway cross sections and intersections could look like. There was further information shared regarding the pros and cons of the signals at each recommended location and what the phasing may be. 

February 2020: 

Traffic and Sidewalk Committee (T&SC) meeting 

  • Project update and to provide additional discussion about questions raised at previous meetings and why a shared use path is preferred for this corridor. 

August 2020: 

Traffic and Sidewalk Committee (T&SC) meeting 

  • 25% Design package being nearly complete, a project update was again given to the T&SC Committee. Approval was given to advance to the Select Board meeting. 

September 2020: 

Select Board meeting

  • The project was presented to the Select Board. The Board voted unanimously in support of finalizing the 25% design package to MassDOT. 

March 2022: 

Traffic and Sidewalk Committee (T&SC) meeting 

  • The Town (without the consultant) provided an update to residents about the project. 

September 2022: 

The MassDOT 25% Design Public Hearing is tentatively scheduled 

  • The 25% design has been approved by MassDOT and approval was given to advance to the 25% Design Public Hearing.
